Santee Coastal Reserve National Wildlife Refuge
You are allowed to stay in this dispersed camping site (no ammenities) for 4 days. There are only 10 sites here, but it is peaceful with a lot of opportunities for bike rides, nature walks, wildlife viewing (big alligators (didn't see, too cold) and river otters), and dark skies for star gazing. Added a couple more bird species to my life list.

What a magnificent animal that is so well adapted to the varied extremes of its environment. This area has also managed to preserve its prairie dog populations, as well. As a result of the effects of these dog towns, they have been able to successfully reintroduce black-footed ferrets and the burrowing owl populations have increased.
