The USS North Carolina This battleship class was an incredible adventure to explore.  I started with a guide (who was a Navy veteran from Albany).  After his 90 minute informative tour, sharing his stories of personal experience in the Navy which gave greater insight into life on these ships,  I spent another 2 hours exploring the nooks and crannies of this historic artifact. Just look at the battle flags to get an inkling of the significance of this ship and its crews over its service to protecting freedom in the world.  I am so grateful that the city of Wilmington and the residents of North Carolina worked so hard to save this grand lady from the scrap heap. School groups used to have fund raising sales to aid in its preservation. Charleston – I didn't get to see as much here as I would've liked because of the government shutdown. Many of the federal sites (like Ft. Sumter) were closed. One site that was very interesting was The Charleston Tea Plantation, the only tea plantation in the United States. Yes the tea was very good.
