No,, I haven't fallen over the falls. I had some interesting times and not near wifi much so it's time to get going again on posting. After Niagara Falls, I went to Lockport, NY to view a stretch of the Erie Canal. Considered such an amazing engineering feat in 1825 that the Marquis de Lafayette came over from France to see it for himself.
The original canal had 5 locks that raised or lowered the barge boats 60 feet to overcome the change in elevation. 5 locks in each direction allowed more cargo to be moved from Albany NY to Buffalo NY and access to Lake Erie and points west.
These boats navigated the canal transporting goods and people. Many families lived onboard some specially designed barges and the children often were responsible for "driving" the mules that pulled them along the way.
There have been major changes over the years, in the construction and operation of these locks.
Watching the 2 locks that now exist here is quite interesting as 9 million gallons of water rush in to raise modern boats, including excursions you can ride through the locks on to experience the ride.
